During the American Revolutionary War, army commander George Washington led his men on horseback, armed with his sword and a brace (pair) of pistols mounted on his horse for personal defense. Washington's correspondences throughout his life include dozens of references to pistols purchased, lost, captured, and received as gifts, supporting the notion that our original Commander-In-Chief was not only a gun owner but a firearms collector as well.
